The 3 millimetre T-piece makes a branch in the drip hose, so downstream of the sensor. One sensor then delivers water at two places instead of one.

Why a second drip point

Water spreads only so far through soil from where it lands. In a wide trough or a large pot, one drip point therefore means one wet patch and a root ball that stays dry beside it, even though the sensor is working exactly as intended. Two points on opposite sides solve that without a second sensor.

The sensor still decides

Both drip points hang off the same sensor, so they start and stop together. You are distributing the water, not regulating twice. To control two root balls that dry independently, you need two sensors.
