The Blumat cover cap is a locking cap over the dripper's adjusting screw. It holds the setting you chose.

Why a setting drifts

The adjusting screw decides how dry the root ball may get before water arrives, and it is the only adjustment in the whole system. A screw accidentally turned a quarter while potting, weeding or moving things therefore changes your moisture regime quietly, and you only notice it in the plant.

With the cap over it, that cannot happen. Most worthwhile where you regularly have your hands in among the pots, or on a setup that is dialled in and should stay that way.
