Eighteen pots in three rows of six, on 130 by 275 centimetres. The Growrilla Hydroponic system PRO RDWC 18 is the largest PRO system in our range, with 304 litres in the system and a recommended growing area of 150 by 300.

A stronger water pump for long rows

Up to and including sixteen pots, the PRO range uses a water pump adjustable from 300 to 2000 litres per hour. At eighteen pots, Growrilla moves to a pump of 500 to 2800 litres per hour.

That comes down to length. The rows here are six pots long, and the system measures over 2.5 metres end to end. The water has to cover that distance there and back, and in a long row the furthest pots are the most likely to be refreshed more slowly than the first ones. The stronger pump keeps the flow going at the end of the row too, so EC and pH in the last pot stay the same as in the controller pot.

The air pump grows along with it, to 80 litres per minute for eighteen air stones.

Draining and refreshing

You do not replace 304 litres with a bucket. The manual describes how to drain through the controller pot. You loosen the ring on the elbow and turn the elbow to another position, attach a hose barb with a hose and lead it to the drain. Then you pump the solution out, rinse with clean water while the pump runs, remove residue from the pots and refill to the minimum level before switching the pump back on.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pump always need to be on its highest setting?
No. Start in the middle and check whether the water in the last pot moves as well as in the first. Only turn it up if the furthest pots fall behind.

Does this fit a 150 by 300 space?
Yes, that is the size Growrilla recommends. The system takes up 130 by 275, which leaves a little room all round.
