NutSystems - Origin Small Wide 8

The NutSystems Origin Small Wide 8 sets eight 11 litre pots on a 120 by 60 centimetre base, with 85 litres of nutrient solution beneath them. The system was sold before as the Wilma Small Wide; Origin is the name NutSystems, formerly Nutriculture, now gives it.

Made for a 120 x 60 tent

That size is no accident. A 120 by 60 grow tent is one of the most chosen formats, and the Small Wide fills exactly that floor. You use the whole base without a corner left empty or pots hanging over the edge. Do check the inside size of your tent: many 120 x 60 tents are a few centimetres narrower inside, and then it gets tight.

At 11 litres per pot every plant has enough root space for a full grow, and the 85 litres in the reservoir gives you a buffer of over ten litres per plant.

From pump to pot and back

A pump in the reservoir sends the solution through a manifold to a dripper above each pot. The surplus sinks through the pot, lands in the grow tray and runs back to the reservoir. It is a closed loop: you top up what the plants take up and evaporate.

Substrate and upkeep

The wholesaler describes a black dripper for clay pebbles and a blue arrow dripper for soil, coco and rockwool, and recommends clay pebbles. With coco or soil more fine material washes back into the reservoir, so keep a closer eye on the pump and the drippers there. A clean every two weeks keeps the drippers open.

Is this the old Wilma Small Wide? Yes. NutSystems now sells the same system under the name Origin.

Does it come with a timer? Only a pump and an irrigation system are named. You need a separate timer for the watering cycles.

Will it fit my 120 x 60 tent? On paper exactly. Measure the inside, because in many tents it is a little smaller than the outside.

How does it differ from the Wilma XXL 8? The XXL has 18 litre pots on 150 litres and is made for a 120 x 120 tent.
