Tropf Blumat bottle adapter (0,2 l per day)

The Blumat bottle adapter turns an ordinary plastic bottle into a reservoir: cone in the soil, bottle on top, done. It delivers 0.2 litres per 24 hours, and that rate is fixed.

Fixed output, no regulation

This is the key difference from the rest of the Blumat line and it appears nowhere: this adapter measures nothing. Where the Houseplant cone and the Tropf sensors only release water once the root ball dries, the bottle adapter gives its two hundred millilitres a day whether the plant wants it or not. That makes it simple, and it makes it limited: it is meant to bridge a period, not to run a season.

How far it takes you depends purely on the bottle: it fits any common plastic bottle from 0.25 to 2 litres, so reckon on roughly one to ten days.

Never nutrients

Important and rarely mentioned: no fertiliser in the bottle. The porous clay cone silts up and then passes no water at all. Very hard water also shortens cone life; up to around 30 dH it works as intended.

Fitting it

Fill the bottle, push the adapter into the neck, invert it and press the cone into the soil. Then pierce a small hole in the base of the bottle, or it draws a vacuum and delivery stops. If you refill often, the bottle base can be cut off entirely instead.
