A 16.8 centimetre pruning shear with curved micro-tip blades and a non-stick coating. That coating is what separates this shear from nearly everything else in the range, and on a long harvest day you notice the difference inside the first hour.

What resin does to a blade

The moment you cut into flowering material, resin starts building on the steel. It happens faster than most people expect: after twenty minutes of cutting there is already a sticky film. That film is not just dirty, it changes how the shear cuts. The blades stop sliding past each other and start dragging, so you squeeze harder. Eventually you are tearing rather than slicing, and a torn cut dries poorly and looks rough.

The Teflon layer on these blades lowers adhesion. Resin still lands on them, that is unavoidable, but it grips less and releases more easily. In practice that means longer stretches between cleaning stops.

Cleaning without wrecking the coating

Treat the layer as what it is: a thin top coat you can remove. Wipe with a cloth and some alcohol as you go, along the blade rather than across it. What you should not do is scrape resin off with a knife or steel wool, because that takes away exactly the thing you paid for. For heavier buildup, soak the blades in alcohol first and wipe afterwards.

The curved tip

The blades curve and finish in a fine point. That lets you get under a branch or behind a leaf without pushing the rest of the plant aside. The spring pushes the shear open after every cut, so your hand only has to squeeze and never has to open. Across a few hundred cuts that genuinely tells in your forearm. A sliding lock keeps the shear closed when you put it away.

This is a tool for fine work: leaves, thin stems, shaping. For woody branches you want a lopper instead.

Frequently asked questions

Does the coating actually stay on? With normal use and cloth cleaning it lasts a long time. Scraping with metal removes it, so that is the one thing to avoid.

Why curved rather than straight? A curved tip reaches under and behind things without disturbing the plant. A straight shear is faster on large leaves, a curved one is more precise in awkward spots.

Can I cut thick branches with it? No. The tip is fine and thin by design. Forcing it through wood spreads the blades apart.

Is this the same as the Procut Curved? No. The Procut Curved is also curved, but has no non-stick coating and no micro-tip. This one is finer and costs a little more.
