Garden Highpro Procut One Eye

The small one in the Procut range. A single finger loop, stainless steel blades and a spring that opens the shear by itself. It costs roughly half what the straight and curved Procut do, and that shows in the build.

It comes apart, and that is the point

Resin builds up on the pivot of a cutting shear. That is where things go wrong: the blades start dragging, you squeeze harder, and eventually you set the shear aside even though there is nothing wrong with the steel. On most small shears you cannot get in there without destroying them.

This one is held together with a screw. Undo it, clean both halves separately including the pivot, and put it back together. That turns a gummed-up shear from a throwaway into a five minute job. For a shear at this price that is unusual.

What it does not have

To be straight about it: the straight and curved Procut have rubber handles and a safety catch, this one has neither. The housing is bare plastic and there is no lock to hold it shut. For an hour of work that hardly matters, for a full day it does. Store it with a little more care as well, because the blades sit open.

Where it belongs

As a second shear next to a larger one, as the shear to hand out when several people are cutting at once, or simply for small jobs in between. The finger loop holds it in your hand and the spring does the opening, so you only squeeze. In tight spots the small size is an advantage.
