Ready-made or make your own

Exactly the same cable and the same kind of plug are sold separately here. The difference is the assembly, and that is less trivial than it looks: stripping cores to length without nicking strands, the right core on the right terminal, the strain relief gripping the sheath rather than the cores, and the earth left slightly longer than the rest.

On a moulded lead like this one, all of that was done in the factory and the plug is moulded into the sheath. You cannot open it, which also means nothing inside it can work loose.

Making your own is worth it when you need a specific length or are replacing a damaged plug. For a standard length a ready-made lead is quicker and cheaper than the parts separately.

Two metres

Two metres covers a device to a socket or distribution box in the same corner of the room. Measure before ordering: a lead pulled taut tugs at the connection, and that is exactly where trouble starts later. The same lead exists in four metres.

Dry rooms

This is VMVL cable, which belongs in dry rooms. Keep the plug and socket out of the wet zone.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take the plug off? No, it is moulded into the sheath. That is also the advantage: nothing inside can work loose.

Why not make my own? You can, and sometimes that is wiser, for instance at an unusual length. For a standard size this is quicker and usually cheaper.

Is two metres enough? Measure it. A lead pulled taut tugs at the connection, which you do not want.

Can this go in a damp room? It is VMVL, so it is intended for dry rooms.
