A fully automatic extinguisher: a housing holding an ampoule of extinguishing fluid that bursts at 84 degrees Celsius and disperses the fluid across an area of up to 16 square metres.
It works when nobody is there
That is the whole difference from any extinguisher you have to operate yourself. A grow room often stands empty while equipment is running: lamps, fans, ballasts, a pump on a timer. If something goes wrong there at night, nobody is around to reach for an extinguisher.
This one waits on temperature, not on a person. At 84 degrees the ampoule bursts and releases the fluid, which forms immediately into a gas and puts the flame out. There is no button, no pin and no action.
Where to mount it
Above where the risk is, because heat rises. In practice that means above the ballasts, above a distribution box, or above wherever most of the connections come together. Mount it in a corner the heat reaches late and it will react late.
Sixteen square metres is the stated coverage. In a larger room, or where there are several risk points spread apart, one unit does not cover everything.
What the gas does and does not do
Per the specification the gas is harmless to people and the environment, does not attack materials, is easy to clean up and poses no short-circuit risk. That last point is the one that counts in a room full of electrics: an extinguishing agent that causes shorts itself solves little.
What it is not: a replacement for smoke detection, or for an extinguisher you can aim yourself. An automatic unit covers one spot and only reacts once it is already hot there. Have a smoke alarm as well, and know where the door is.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to do anything? No. It responds to temperature, not to operation. That is the reason to have one.
Where do I mount it? Above the risk. Heat rises, so above your equipment or distribution box.
Will one unit cover my room? Up to 16 square metres. If your room is larger or the risk points are spread apart, one is not enough.
Does this replace a smoke alarm? No. A smoke alarm warns you; this only reacts to heat. You want both.
