The material does the work, not the shape

There is little to see on a reflector from outside. Two hoods of the same size can differ considerably in what arrives underneath, and that difference sits in the surface: what percentage of the light falling on it is thrown back rather than swallowed.

Plain bare aluminium manages around 75 to 80 percent. Polished aluminium rolled and treated for reflection goes above 95 percent. That sounds small, but it is light you already paid for at the lamp: a fifth of it either vanishes into the hood or lands on your crop. Almeco is one of the makers of that material, and this reflector is made from it.

It is also why you should not clean a reflector with an abrasive or a rough cloth. Scratches turn a mirrored surface matt, and matt throws back less. A soft dry cloth is enough, and worth using: a layer of dust costs measurable light.
