Why you do not run a lamp flat out all season

The dimmer on this lamp has four settings: 40, 60, 80 and 100 percent, plus off. That is not a luxury but matches what plants can take at different stages.

A young cutting or seedling has little root and little leaf. Giving more light than such a plant can process does not produce faster growth but stress: the leaves bleach or curl, and the crop costs you time instead. At that stage forty or sixty percent is usually enough.

As the crop fills out, its capacity to convert light grows with it, and there is room to turn up. In flower the lamp can run full.

There is a second, more practical reason to be able to dim. Light and heat come from the same source in a lamp. If the temperature in your tent climbs too high on a warm day, turning the lamp down a step is often easier than driving your extraction harder, and it uses less electricity rather than more.

Beside the fixed steps there is a 0 to 10 V input, letting an external controller adjust the lamp smoothly rather than in steps.
