A timer in the lamp rather than in the socket

The usual way to run a light schedule is a time switch between plug and socket. This lamp has the clock built in, with settings of 6, 12 and 18 hours, and that differs from the separate kind in a few ways.

The practical difference is that the setting belongs to the lamp. Move it or plug it into another socket and the schedule travels with it, and there is no separate box to fall on the floor or be reset by accident.

The more important difference is the combination with the dimmer. A time switch has only two states, on and off, so it puts full power onto your crop at once and takes it away at once. A lamp that switches and dims itself can run at a lower setting within the same schedule.

There is also an EXT input, letting an external controller take over the regulation, which is the way forward once you have more than a couple of lamps or want to steer the climate centrally. The daisy chain links several Pro lamps so they follow that signal together.

Bear in mind that a built-in timer restarts its count after a power cut: check that the schedule still matches after an outage.
