Mars Hydro - TSW-2000

The TSW-2000 is the square 300 watt fixture in the TS range, with a white reflector hood and a flowering area of 90 by 90 centimetres. Its supply unit sits separately on a generous cable.

The supply unit does not have to stay in the tent

On this lamp the electronics are not built in but housed in a separate box, joined to the fixture by a long cable. That box clips onto the top of the hood by default, and most people leave it there because that is how it comes out of the carton. A missed opportunity: the cable is long enough to sit outside the tent, and moving it buys you two things.

The first is heat. A supply unit handling 300 watts turns part of that into warmth, and while the box hangs inside, that warmth enters air you then have to extract again. Put it outside and your extraction no longer has to shift it. The hood still gets warm, being the heat sink for the diodes, but that is a considerably smaller load than both together.

The second is control. The dimming knob sits on that same box and travels outside with it, so you adjust intensity without unzipping the tent, which matters when you want the flowering climate left undisturbed. Link several lamps and all the knobs end up side by side.

When routing it out, mind the pass-through. Use an existing opening or the tent's cable port, and do not trap the cable in the zip, where the insulation eventually gives way.

Frequently asked questions

Why is no PPF or PPE listed for this lamp?
Because Mars Hydro have put out several figures for it that contradict one another. We would rather give no number than one we cannot stand behind.

Can the supply unit really hang outside the tent?
Yes, that is what the cable length is for. Keep it dry and clear, not tucked under a cloth.

How does it differ from the TSL-2000?
Same power, different shape. This one is square for a 90 by 90 area, the TSL is elongated for 120 by 60.

Does the lamp itself get warm too?
Yes. The hood carries away the heat from the diodes, so it feels warm. Leave room around it so air can pass.
