The P1000 is a flat 100 watt panel from Viparspectra's P range, with a dimming knob on the side and passive cooling. Meant for growing spaces of roughly 60 × 40 to 60 × 60 cm.

A P1000 is a 100 watt lamp

The model number in this range is not a wattage. The P1000 draws 100 watts, the P600 draws 95, and the P2000 sits at 200. So there is no fixed ratio between the number and the watts, and the number climbs faster than the power does.

This is not a detail for enthusiasts. Anyone comparing on model numbers soon reads a P1000 as a thousand watt lamp, or assumes a P2000 is twice the P1000. The first is out by a factor of ten, the second happens to be roughly right. It goes properly wrong when comparing across brands, because each runs its own numbering on the same logic.

The only safe method is to look at the stated draw in watts and set that against the size of your tent. Here that is 100 watts, suited to a small or medium growing space. If you meet an advert presenting the model number as a wattage, you know enough about the rest of that advert.

Frequently asked questions

Does the P1000 really draw 100 watts?
It does. The model number says nothing about power; the draw is in the specifications.

So is a P2000 twice as strong?
Not because the number doubles. The P2000 sits at 200 watts, so in this one case it works out roughly, but that is coincidence rather than a rule.

Why is there no micromole output on this page?
Viparspectra quote figures for the P range in different places that contradict each other. We would rather print none than pick one.

What is the difference with the XS1000, also 100 watts?
Same draw, different diodes and a higher light output on the XS. That difference is covered on the XS1000's page.
