Watering by measurement instead of by schedule

Most growers water to a rhythm: every other day, or each morning. That works as long as conditions stay the same, and they never do.

A plant in full growth during warm weather uses considerably more water than the same plant a week earlier at lower temperatures. Your schedule does not know that. The result is that you alternate between too much and too little, and both cost you growth:

• Too much water displaces the oxygen between the particles of your medium. Roots need air, and a pot left saturated too long is the usual road to root rot.
• Too little water makes the plant close its stomata to limit evaporation, and then not only water uptake stops but growth with it.

A soil sensor takes the guess out. Combined with an AI controller and the app you can switch devices on measured saturation, a pump through a UIS Control Plug for instance. Your pot then gets water because it is dry, not because it is Tuesday.

Note the ± 5% accuracy. That is ample for telling whether a pot is wet, damp or dry, and not meant for steering to the percent. You use the reading to decide whether to water, not to hold your substrate at an exact figure.

The detachable stem lets you set the probe deeper in the pot, and the probe shape is designed not to damage roots going in. At IP67 it is fully sealed against moisture and dirt.

Does it work with the Controller 69 Pro?
No, it is intended for the AI controllers.

Can it water by itself?
Not on its own. It measures, and your controller can switch a pump or other device on that basis.

Where in the pot should it go?
At root level, not just under the surface, and not right beside a dripper. The top of the pot always reads differently from where the roots are.

Does it work in coco or rockwool?
It is made for soil and potting mix. In coco and rockwool most growers work to a watering schedule based on runoff.

Do I need one per pot?
Most growers put one in a representative pot and water the rest on that.
