A folding pocket microscope with two lenses: 30x for an overview and 60x for detail. With LED lighting and a rotating aluminium guard.

The AC Infinity Dual-Lens Pocket Microscope is built around the way you actually inspect a plant. Optical glass, an anodised aluminium body with a 360° rotating cap, and a carry case. Ultra-bright white LEDs give contrast down in the shadows of the canopy.

Two magnifications, two jobs

Why two lenses rather than one strong one? Because inspecting happens in two steps that ask different things of your optics.

30x: searching. A wide 22 mm field lets you sweep a leaf in a few movements. This is the setting for pest checks: you are looking for spider mite, thrips, whitefly, eggs and early feeding damage on the underside of the leaf. With a stronger lens you would have to cover the same leaf in ten times the movement, and then you miss things.

60x: judging. A 12 mm field, for once you have found something or when you want to assess resin glands. At this magnification a trichome head is sharp enough to separate clear, milky and amber: the basis for choosing your harvest window.

In practice you work low to high: sweep the leaf at 30x, and only switch to 60x once something catches your eye. The other way round wastes a lot of time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference from a single 45x or 60x microscope?
You get two magnifications in one instrument, plus a tougher build. If you only have one job (judging trichomes, say) a single lens is enough.

Is 30x enough to see pests?
Yes, for finding spider mite, thrips and their eggs on the underside of a leaf it is ample. To identify what you found, switch to 60x.

Can I leave it in the grow room?
The housing is impact resistant and a carry case is included. Do store it dry though; it is optics.

How do I keep the image sharp?
Brace your hand or rest the leaf on something solid. At 60x depth of field is small, so small movements make a big difference.

Are batteries included?
Yes, LR1130 batteries are supplied.
