A straight 3 metre UIS cable with a female socket on one end and a male connector on the other, for extending a cable you already have.

Extending rather than replacing

This is the cable you need when your device already has a lead that is just too short.

The female end is a socket. Your fan, lamp or humidifier's existing plug goes into it. The male end then runs on to your controller. Your existing cable stays where it is and simply becomes three metres longer.

That is a different job from the male to male version, which joins two sockets and therefore replaces a connection. Anyone wanting to extend an existing lead who orders male to male ends up with two plugs and nothing to put them in.

The rule of thumb: look at the end you are holding. If you have a spare plug that needs somewhere to go, this female to male is the one.

What you use it for in practice

  • A fan you want to hang higher than its own cable allows.
  • A controller you want outside the tent while your equipment stays inside.
  • A lamp at the far end of a longer room, where the supplied cable will not reach the controller.
  • A setup you have moved, where the distances have changed.

Note that this cable carries control and not just power: your controller sends fan speed or dimming level down it, and that signal changes continuously. So use a UIS cable rather than any extension lead with a similar-looking plug.

Frequently asked questions

Which end goes where?
The female socket takes your device's existing plug; the male end runs to your controller.

When would I need male to male instead?
When you want to join two sockets rather than extend an existing plug.

Can I chain two to reach further?
You can, but keep the total limited because of signal loss.

What is the difference from the right-angle version?
That has an L-connector for tight spaces, and it does not support some advanced functions on the Controller AI+.
