An adapter for grow lamps with an RJ11 or RJ12 socket that dim by resistance. For drivers including MOSO and Meanwell.
Resistance dimming, and how to tell you have it
This adapter exists because there is an older way of dimming that works not with a control signal but with a resistance.
Where a modern driver expects a voltage or a pulse signal, a resistance-controlled driver measures how much resistance sits between two wires and derives the dimming level from that. Turn a potentiometer and you change that resistance, and so your light level. Simple and reliable, but it is a different principle, and an adapter offering a voltage achieves nothing with it.
How to find out which you have:
- Look at the driver itself. The brand and type are usually printed on it. Older MOSO and Meanwell series often fall into this category.
- Look at your current dimmer. A knob on a lead with no power supply of its own suggests resistance dimming.
- Search the manual for "resistance dimming". If it says PWM or 0-10V, you need the Type-A.
- Ask your supplier with your driver's type number to hand. That is quicker than trying.
Brands covered include certain series from Mars Hydro, Spider Farmer and HLG. It is the driver that decides, not the brand as a whole, so always check the type number.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference from the Type-A?
Type-A is for PWM and 0-10V, Type-B for resistance dimming. They are not interchangeable.
Can I just try it?
Better not. Look up your driver's type number; it is quicker and you take no risk with your lighting.
My lamp has bare wires.
Then the Type-D is the right one, connecting at wire level.
Does this work with any Mars Hydro lamp?
No, it depends on the driver. Different dimming methods appear within one brand.
