Mount it outside the room it controls

This is in the manual and it is almost always overlooked, yet it decides how long your controller lasts.

The controller produces heat of its own. There is a cooling plate inside to shed it, and that only works if air can circulate around the unit. Cli-Mate therefore specifies mounting the controller outside the space it controls.

The reason makes sense as soon as you hear it: a controller hanging in your warm tent is heating itself with exactly the temperature it is trying to manage. It runs hotter, its cooling works less well, and an excessive ambient temperature is listed in the manual as one of the causes of the control failing altogether.

So where it belongs:

• Outside the grow room, on a wall or frame, with the probe reaching inside on its cable.
• Hanging free and level, so air can move around every side. Not wedged between other equipment.
• Away from any heat source, so not beside your heater or under your lamps.
• At working height, because a controller you cannot reach is a controller you never adjust.

The metal mounting plate is there to do that firmly. Do not leave it dangling from its own cables.

The IP44 housing resists splashing water from any direction and dust, but not a jet of water or submersion. So keep it out of the wet zone around your reservoir too.

At 16 amps this version is at the upper limit of what an ordinary domestic circuit provides. Have your installation assessed before connecting everything at once.

Frequently asked questions

Can it hang inside the grow tent?
Better not. The manufacturer specifies mounting it outside the controlled space, because it produces heat of its own and has to shed it.

My controller keeps cutting out.
Check that it hangs free and is not overheating; excessive ambient temperature is a known cause. Then check the fuse.

Do I need 16 amps?
Only with heavy fans or several devices together. For an ordinary tent the 7 amp version is more than enough.

Is a spare fuse included?
Yes, every controller ships with an extra fuse.
