The Cli-Mate FC2010-T3 is a stepless speed controller with a temperature sensor, for motors of 0.1 to 0.6 kW on a single-phase 220 to 240 volt supply. Output frequency 5 to 50 Hz.

What a frequency inverter does differently

Every other way of slowing a fan amounts to the same thing: less voltage to the motor. A frequency inverter does something fundamentally different, and that is where its two advantages come from.

An AC motor turns at a speed that follows from the frequency of the mains supply, not from its voltage. Here that is 50 Hz, which corresponds to a fixed speed. Lower the voltage and the motor does turn more slowly, but it becomes weaker and hotter doing so, because you are asking it to do the same work with less.

A frequency inverter rebuilds the AC supply at a lower frequency, letting the voltage move down with it. The ratio between voltage and frequency therefore stays constant, and with it the motor keeps its torque. The motor turns more slowly but still delivers force.

Two consequences you notice immediately:

  • No hum. The motor receives a clean waveform rather than a chopped one, and chopping is exactly where hum comes from.
  • Efficient at low speed. Because no power is lost as heat, a slowly turning fan genuinely uses less electricity.

This T3 version is the smallest in the range, for motors up to 0.6 kW.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth the money against a transformer controller?
If noise and running cost matter and your extraction runs continuously, the difference pays for itself. For a small tent in a shed, a simpler controller is often enough.

What does 5 to 50 Hz mean?
That your motor can be controlled from nearly stopped to full speed. 50 Hz is full speed, 5 Hz is very slow.

Does it work with any fan?
With single-phase AC motors inside the stated power range. Check the rating plate for motor power in kW.

Can I set it manually?
It controls on the temperature sensor. That is the point: you set a target temperature and the controller finds the speed that holds it.
