Stopping your devices fighting each other

Once you have heating, extraction and humidity control in one room, a problem appears that separate devices do not solve: they can work against each other without anyone noticing.

The classic example. Your dehumidifier runs to bring humidity down. A dehumidifier produces heat doing so. That heat makes your extraction work harder. Your extraction pulls out warm, damp air and draws in outside air, which in autumn is itself damp. Your dehumidifier works harder. And so two devices keep each other going while your electricity bill climbs.

Or the reverse: your heater raises the temperature, which lowers relative humidity, so your humidifier fires up to compensate. Two devices working against each other.

A combined controller helps because everything runs on one set of settings and one switching differential of a degree per step. The devices respond to the same measurement rather than each to its own thermostat with its own switching point.

What stays yours is thinking about the order. Ventilating is almost always the cheapest way to shed moisture; a dehumidifier is the answer when the outside air is itself too damp. Set things so your extraction gets to do its work first.
