The Cli-Mate Smart Controller 6.5A works like the 4 amp version but controls in three steps rather than two and takes a heavier fan. Two dials, splash-proof housing, mounting brackets, temperature range 0 to 40 °C.

The sensor decides whether your control is right

A temperature-driven controller is exactly as good as the place its sensor hangs. That sounds obvious, and it is the mistake made most often.

The controller knows nothing about your room. It knows one number, and that is whatever the sensor reports. Hang it in the wrong place and your extraction will control beautifully to a temperature your plants never feel.

Four places the sensor does not belong:

• In direct lamp light. You then measure radiant heat from your lamp rather than air temperature, and your extraction runs harder than it needs to.
• Right by the extraction opening. Air passing there is already leaving the room, and it is not the air your crop stands in.
• Right in front of the intake. There you measure fresh supply, usually cooler than the rest, so your extraction runs too slowly.
• Against an outside wall. That follows the weather outside, not your climate inside.

Where it does belong: at canopy height, among the crop, out of direct lamp light and out of the direct airflow. That is the temperature your crop meets, and therefore the temperature you want to control on. Move the sensor up as your crop grows.

Frequently asked questions

What does the third step add?
An intermediate setting, so the jumps are smaller and your temperature swings less than with two.

How long is the sensor cable?
Long enough to hang the controller outside the tent with the sensor at your crop. Measure your setup if you have a large room.

Can the sensor touch a leaf?
Better not. It should measure air, not leaf. Hang it free among the crop.

Can I use it for an 8 A fan?
No. Stay under 6.5 A, with headroom for startup current.
