A 10 ml dosing syringe, the size that fits most feed schedules.

From millilitres per litre to your reservoir

Nutrient labels almost always give a dose per litre. Your reservoir is never one litre, so there is always a calculation in between, and that is where it goes wrong.

The sum is dose per litre times the number of litres. At 2 ml per litre and a 20 litre reservoir, that is 40 ml. Two things to watch.

Calculate on what is in the reservoir now, not on maximum capacity. A 50 litre tank standing half full wants half the dose. On a system you top up between times, that is the difference between staying at strength and slowly stacking up.

On a recirculating system the whole system volume counts, including water in the pipework and pots, not just the reservoir.

A 10 ml syringe doses up to 10 ml at once and beyond that in full barrels. For a tent with a 20 to 50 litre reservoir that covers most products on your schedule. If you routinely exceed 30 ml per product, the 60 ml syringe is more comfortable.

Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: 10 ml
  • Use: measuring and adding nutrient, additives and pH regulators
  • Method: draw from the container, inject into the water

Frequently asked questions

How many syringes do I need?
Preferably one per product. They cost little, and it stops two undiluted concentrates meeting inside the same barrel.

Can I reuse it for a different product?
Only after rinsing thoroughly. Safer is to dedicate one to a product and write that on it.

Why not just a measuring jug?
Below 20 ml a jug is too coarse, and what stays on the wall is a noticeable part of your dose.
