Drawing without contaminating your bottle
A bottle of nutrient often lasts a whole season, and whatever you leave in it stays there just as long. That makes how you draw from it more important than most growers think.
What goes wrong: you use the same syringe for two products, or you put a syringe holding a little water into an undiluted concentrate. In the first case you bring together components that must not mix undiluted. In the second you introduce water into a bottle that was not formulated for it, which with some biological products starts spoilage.
The practice that prevents it:
- One syringe per product, with the name written on it.
- Shake the syringe dry before drawing, or let it drain. No water droplets into the bottle.
- Draw over the reservoir, not over the bottle, so a falling drop lands in the water rather than on the cap.
- Close the bottle again straight away. Air and light degrade many products.
This 60 ml size also suits thicker, viscous products. Those move slowly through a narrow opening, and a larger barrel with a wider tip fills faster and empties more completely.
Technical Specifications:
- Capacity: 60 ml
- Use: measuring, dosing and transferring nutrient and additives
- Method: draw from the container, inject into the water
Frequently asked questions
Can I use it to draw off a reservoir?
For a small sample, yes, for instance to measure. For larger amounts a measuring jug is more practical.
Does it work with thick, viscous products?
Better than a small syringe. Draw slowly, giving the liquid time to follow.
How should I store it?
Rinsed clean and with the plunger pushed in, so the seal is not left stretched.
