A simple speed controller with a single dial, for fans up to 1500 watts or 6.5 amps.

The cheapest fix for extraction that is too strong

This is by far the most common reason this controller gets bought, and it is a problem plenty of growers create for themselves.

When setting up a room, extraction is usually chosen generously. That is sensible, because too little capacity is a real problem and too much looks like none. Until you switch it on.

A fan far too large for your space causes three things at once:

  • Noise. Full power is audible, and in a house that is often why a setup becomes unworkable.
  • Air that is too dry. You push moisture out faster than your plants can replace it, and your humidity falls through the floor.
  • Too cold in winter. You draw in outside air at a rate your heating cannot match.

A controller solves that for a fraction of the price of a different fan. You turn your extraction down to what your room actually needs and keep the capacity in reserve for hot days.

What you do not get here is automation: the speed you set stays until you change it. If you want your extraction to follow the temperature, look at the version with a thermostat, or at the Smart controller with a sensor.

Technical Specifications:

  • Rating: 1500 watts or 6.5 amps
  • Operation: one dial for power
  • Control: manual, no temperature control
  • Suits: extraction and intake fans

Frequently asked questions

Will my fan stall at the lowest setting?
It can. Turn it back up until the motor runs smoothly; below a certain point it gets too little to keep turning.

Does this save electricity?
A fan running slower uses less. How much exactly depends on the type of controller and motor.

Can I run two fans from it?
Only if their combined draw stays well within 6.5 amps, with headroom for startup.

What is the difference from the thermostat version?
That one adjusts speed to the measured temperature. This holds whatever you set.
