A software-driven climate controller for one or two fans, with both an LDR light sensor and a five metre NTC temperature sensor.
Why you want different values by day and by night
The light sensor is what separates the FCC from the FTC, and it solves a problem every grower controlling on temperature has.
A controller without a light sensor knows only one target. That target therefore applies when your lamps are off too, which is exactly when your room behaves quite differently.
What changes the moment the lights go out:
- Your heat source disappears. Your lamps supplied most of your heat. Without them your room cools, and your extraction has far less to do.
- Your humidity climbs. Cooler air holds less moisture, so the same water gives a higher percentage. This is the window mould gets its chance in.
- Your plants transpire less. Water and nutrient uptake largely stops.
So a controller looking only at temperature lets ventilation drop back overnight at exactly the moment you would want to keep shifting moisture. With a light sensor the controller knows whether it is day or night and can behave differently in the dark period.
The controller combines mechanical speed control with digital temperature measurement, giving quiet operation without the hum of cheap electronic controllers. The temperature sensor sits on five metres of cable.

Frequently asked questions
Where should the light sensor go?
Where it sees your grow lamp and no other light. Beside a doorway or window does not work reliably.
Does it measure humidity?
No, it measures light and temperature. For humidity control you need a controller with a humidity sensor.
What is the difference from the FTC?
The light sensor. The FTC controls on temperature alone.
Is 8 amps enough for two fans?
Add up their draw and leave headroom for startup. If you go over, there is a 16 amp version.
