A plug-and-play temperature sensor on a five metre lead, for the Fertraso Smart Controller 6.5A. It turns the manual controller into a temperature-driven one.

What an NTC sensor is

Almost every climate controller in this category measures with the same kind of component, and it is worth knowing why that is so reliable for so little money.

An NTC is a thermistor: a resistor whose resistance changes with temperature. The letters stand for negative temperature coefficient, meaning resistance falls as it gets warmer. Your controller measures that resistance and converts it into degrees.

Why that suits a grow room:

  • Nothing moves. No mechanism to seize, no battery to go flat, no calibration that drifts the way a pH probe's does.
  • It responds quickly. The sensing element is small, so it takes up the temperature of its surroundings promptly rather than lagging.
  • It is accurate in the range you need. Thermistors are at their best around room temperature, which is exactly where your grow room sits.

What does go wrong is the cable, not the sensor. A kinked or cut lead gives a nonsense reading or nothing at all, and that is the usual reason to replace one.

Hang it at canopy height, free among the crop, out of direct lamp light and out of the direct airflow from your inlet or outlet. Measure at the wall or beside your extraction and your fan will control neatly to a temperature your plants never feel.

Technical Specifications:

Frequently asked questions

Does it fit other brands' controllers?
It is intended for the Fertraso Smart Controller. Other brands have their own sensor, even where the plug looks the same.

Can I extend the lead?
Better not. With a resistance measurement the cable itself counts, so extending it can shift your reading.

Can it get wet?
Keep it out of direct water. In the damp air of a grow room it works fine.

Does it need calibrating?
No, an NTC does not drift the way a pH probe does. There is nothing to adjust.
