An analogue timer with push-down pins, settable in 30 minute steps, rated to 3680 watts. With a side switch for timer mode or constant power.

The switch on the side

What separates this timer from an ordinary one is the small slider on the side, switching between Timer and Always On. It looks like a small thing and it saves a lot of fiddling.

In Always On, power flows continuously regardless of how the pins are set. Your programme stays exactly as it was; you simply set it aside temporarily.

When that helps:

  • While working in the room. You want light to prune or inspect, even though your schedule says dark. Without this mode you would have to move the pins and put them back later, which is precisely how a schedule gets muddled.
  • When testing your setup. You want to know whether your lamp, pump or fan works without waiting for the next segment.
  • With cuttings and young plants you give continuous light for a while, after which you switch back to your flowering schedule without reprogramming.
  • During a fault, to keep your ventilation running while you find out what is wrong.

Do remember to switch back. A timer left in Always On gives your plants no dark period, and in flower that is the kind of mistake that costs a whole crop.

The timer plugs straight into a socket and is built for continuous use. With lighting on a ballast, the current peak at switch-on is hard on any timer's contacts; for lamps a relay box driven by this timer is the safer arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

Does my programme survive Always On?
Yes. The pins stay as you set them; only the timer function is bypassed.

Can I switch for less than half an hour?
No, a segment is 30 minutes. For shorter cycles you need a digital timer.

Can I connect my grow lamp directly?
The rating fits, but a lamp's inrush current is hard on the contacts. A relay box in between is safer.

Why is it running late?
The power has probably been off. An analogue timer stops and does not catch up, so check the dial after an outage.
