A compact pocket microscope at 45x with two LED lights. Both magnification and focus are adjustable.
The LED microscope 45x fits in a pocket, weighs 15 grams and comes in a storage pouch. The two LEDs mean you can still see something low in the canopy, which is usually exactly where you need to look.
What you actually see at 45x
Two things make this magnification useful in a grow room, and it helps to know what you are looking at.
Trichomes, for judging your harvest window. At 45x the resin glands appear as separate spheres on a stalk, which is enough to judge their colour. That colour changes as they ripen: first clear and glassy, then milky and cloudy, and eventually amber. You pick your moment on that rather than on the number of weeks in your schedule, because that number rarely matches your conditions exactly.
Pests, before they are a problem. Spider mite, thrips and whitefly are only visible to the naked eye once you already have a population. At 45x you see the insects themselves, their eggs, and the first feeding damage on the underside of the leaf. Usually a week or more before anything shows on top.
Look at the underside of leaves above all. Almost everything you want to find is there.

Frequently asked questions
Is 45x enough to judge trichomes?
Yes. For telling clear, milky and amber apart it is ample.
Why is the image sometimes blurred?
At these magnifications depth of field is small. Brace your hand or rest the leaf on a firm surface, and refocus.
Can I take photos with it?
Holding a phone camera to the eyepiece often works, but it takes patience. This microscope is meant for looking through yourself.
What else can I use it for?
Anything small: coins, stamps, minerals, fibres and hallmarks in jewellery.
