Read it at eye level

The biggest measuring error with a jug is not in the jug, it is in where you stand. Look down into it from above and you read the liquid surface against a marking further away, and you consistently overestimate. On a 50 ml dose that can easily cost you 5 ml.

Reading it properly costs nothing and works like this:

• Put the jug on a flat surface. In your hand it is never level, and reading it tilted gives you a tilted answer.
• Bring your eye to the height of the liquid. Not above it, not below. Crouching is part of the job.
• Read the bottom of the curved surface. Water creeps up the wall, leaving a slightly curved top. The official measuring line is the lowest point of that curve, in the middle.

On this 100 ml jug, graduated in 10 ml steps, that means you can judge half a division and work to roughly 5 ml. If you want finer, choose the 250 ml jug: despite holding more, it is graduated in 5 ml steps.
