A 500 ml measuring jug with a handle, graduated in 10 ml steps. Generous enough for base nutrient, small enough to stay manageable.

Why you are better off with several

One measuring jug that you rinse between uses feels like enough. It is still worth having two or three, and the reason is not tidiness but chemistry.

Feed schedules often come in several components supplied separately, and that is not accidental. Some of them react with each other the moment they meet undiluted. The classic clash is calcium against sulphate or phosphate: together they form a precipitate that will not redissolve. What you are left with is a white floc in your reservoir and a shortage in your solution, having dosed exactly to schedule.

A jug you have merely rinsed always keeps a little behind, and that residue is undiluted. That is precisely where it happens.

The practice that solves it:

  • Give each component its own jug and write on it which.
  • Rinse straight after use, not at the end of the session.
  • Always add to water, never one concentrate into another.

Polypropylene jugs are cheap enough to simply do this. A ruined nutrient solution costs more.

Frequently asked questions

Can I write on it with a permanent marker?
Yes, and it is worth doing if you keep several jugs for different products.

How do I get it properly clean?
Rinse with warm water straight after use. Dried nutrient residue is far more stubborn than fresh.

Why not one jug and rinse well?
Because a little always stays behind, and it is undiluted concentrates that react with each other.
