Two separate meters in one impact-resistant case: the MW100 for pH and the MW302 for EC, with buffers, batteries and manuals included.

The Milwaukee MW710 is not a combi meter but a set. You get two full instruments each with its own electrode (the SE220 for pH and the SE520 conductivity probe for EC) and a case where everything has its place.

Two separate meters or one combi meter?

On paper a single device measuring everything is always the tidier choice. In practice there are three reasons growers end up with two separate meters, and they are worth weighing before you choose.

One electrode is one point of failure. On a combi meter everything reads through the same probe. If it breaks or fouls, you lose pH and EC at once. Precisely when you want to know what is happening in your reservoir. With two meters, the other one carries on.

The two sensors do not age together. A glass pH membrane is a consumable that gets sluggish and eventually will not calibrate. A conductivity probe is far more robust and often lasts years. With separate meters you replace only what is finished. With a combi electrode you throw away a perfectly good EC side along with the worn pH side.

You can measure without switching. Two meters in one case means reading both values back to back, with no mode to change and an instrument in each hand if need be.

Against that, you have two things to maintain and two calibrations to keep up, and more to carry than a single pen. If convenience is what you want, a combi meter makes more sense. If you need to be able to rely on your readings, this arrangement wins.

The EC side here has automatic temperature compensation from 5 to 50 °C. The pH side compensates manually, which makes no practical difference on a reservoir that sits at a steady temperature, provided you set it correctly once.

Frequently asked questions

Is this cheaper than buying the meters separately?
The set is intended as the better-value package, and you get the case and the buffers with it. If you only need pH or only EC, a single meter is obviously the cheaper route.

Why does the EC meter have automatic temperature compensation and the pH meter not?
Conductivity responds more strongly to temperature than pH does, so automatic compensation buys more there. For pH, setting it manually is enough as long as your conditions are stable.

Can I replace the electrodes separately?
Yes, the SE220 and the SE520 are both available on their own. Recalibrate after every replacement.

Is the case suitable for carrying around?
Yes, it is impact-resistant and everything is held in place. Handy if you work across several sites or reservoirs.
