Choosing between 4, 8 and 16 amps
The three Hybrid versions are technically identical. They differ only in what they can carry, so the choice is purely about your setup.
How to work it out:
- Add up the draw of every fan you want on this controller. If the rating plate only gives watts, divide by 230 for current in amps.
- Add roughly a third. Motors briefly draw considerably more than their rated current on startup, and your controller has to take that peak.
- Choose the version comfortably above that.
In practice it usually comes down to this:
- 4 A: one modest extraction fan, or extraction plus a small intake. A tent of ordinary size.
- 8 A: a heavier extraction fan with intake, or a setup with several fans. This is the size covering most serious home setups.
- 16 A: several heavy fans or a room at commercial scale.
Choosing generously does your fan no harm: a controller supplies what the motor asks for, no more. Choosing tight does, because your fuse blows or the controller runs hot and fails early. If you are between two sizes, take the larger.

Is a heavier controller less accurate with a small fan?
No. The control works the same; only the maximum load differs.
What happens on overload?
The protection trips and you are left without extraction. That is exactly the scenario headroom prevents.
