A plug-and-play temperature sensor on a three metre lead, for the SMSCOM Smart Controller MK2.

The dials change meaning

This is not an accessory that adds something on the side. It changes how your controller works, and the controls change with it. That is the most important thing to know before connecting it, or you will be turning the wrong dial.

Without the sensor the Smart Controller is a manual speed controller. The left dial is your speed, and that is all.

With the sensor it becomes a fully automatic temperature-driven fan controller, and both dials change function:

• The left dial becomes your minimum speed. No longer a fixed speed but the floor your fan never drops below. Set it high enough that your motor keeps turning and there is always a baseline of air exchange.
• The right dial becomes your target temperature. The value the controller works towards.

From then on the controller finds the speed that holds your set temperature by itself, and falls back to your minimum when that is not needed.

The sensor has a three metre lead, so you can leave the controller at the socket and hang the sensor by your crop. Place it at canopy height, out of direct lamp light and out of the airflow from your inlet or outlet.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on other SMSCOM controllers?
It is intended for the Smart Controller MK2. Other models have their own sensors.

Can I still control manually with it connected?
With the sensor in, it controls on temperature. To go back to a fixed speed, disconnect the sensor.

Is three metres enough?
For a normal tent with the controller at the socket, yes. Measure your setup if the distance is greater.

Where exactly should I hang it?
At canopy height, free among the crop, out of direct lamp light and out of the direct airflow.
