A compact controller for two fans at once, with a separate socket for intake and extraction. Stepless and temperature driven.
The SMSCOM Twincontroller MK2 4.5A drives both fans from a single five metre temperature sensor. Rated to 4.5 amps, that is 1000 watts in total, with a spare fuse included and a five year warranty.
What the three dials do
Operation is three dials, and the two speed dials are often misunderstood. They do not set a fixed speed: they set the limits the controller is allowed to move between.
Target temperature. The value the controller works towards. If the measured temperature sits above it, your fans speed up.
Minimum speed. The speed your fans never drop below, even when it is cool enough. This is the most important of the three, for two reasons. You always need a baseline of air exchange, because even at the right temperature fresh air has to come in and moisture has to go out. And a fan that falls too far can stall: the motor gets too little to keep turning, and it hums or stops altogether.
Maximum speed. The ceiling. Useful when extraction at full power is too loud for the situation, or when you want to hold a slight negative pressure and the outlet must not outrun what the inlet can supply.
Setting it in practice: put minimum speed just above the point where your fan keeps turning smoothly, put maximum where the noise is acceptable, and only then set the temperature.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my fan stall at the lowest setting?
Your minimum speed is set too low. Turn it up until the motor keeps turning smoothly.
Does it control both fans separately?
They each have their own socket and are controlled to the same temperature. For two independent settings you need two controllers.
Is 4.5 A enough?
That figure covers both fans together. Add up the draw of your intake and extraction before choosing.
Where do I hang the sensor?
At canopy height, out of direct lamp light and out of the direct airflow from your inlet or outlet.
