Why a steady speed beats chasing the temperature

An ordinary temperature-driven controller does exactly what you would expect: warmer means faster, cooler means slower. That sounds sensible and it has a drawback you mostly hear.

Such control chases the temperature. The fan speeds up, the room cools, the fan drops back, the room warms, and it starts again. The result is a speed that constantly moves up and down, with two consequences: you hear your extraction changing pitch, and your temperature swings around your target rather than sitting on it.

Motion Flow takes a different approach. The software runs the fans at a fixed speed around your set temperature rather than correcting continuously. No more peaks and troughs.

What that gives you:

• A flatter temperature line. Less swing around your target, and a stable climate is exactly what your crop wants.
• Quieter running. A fan at constant speed is far less noticeable than one that keeps changing. In a house that is often the deciding argument.
• Less wear. Constantly speeding up and slowing down is harder on a motor than turning steadily.

The PRO also has two things the MK2 does not: you can connect a light sensor for different behaviour during the dark period, and you can add slave units to expand later.

Is Motion Flow worth the price difference?
If your extraction is audible from your living space, usually yes. If your setup is in a shed, the MK2 is a fine choice.

Is the light sensor included?
No, it is sold separately and only fits the PRO versions.

Do slaves count towards the 4.5 amps?
Yes. The maximum applies to the whole system, including whatever hangs on the slaves.

Does the fan then always run at the same speed?
Around your target, yes. If the temperature moves clearly above or below it, the controller does adjust.
