Atami - B'cuzz Coco Booster Universal

A growth booster from Atami for growing in coco. 0.1 to 0.5 ml per litre, daily from the growth phase. The working elements are magnesium and iron.

Magnesium and iron are a pair, and chlorophyll is why

Atami name two components in this booster: a natural plant extract, and a combination of nitrogen, magnesium and iron. Of those three, magnesium and iron are the interesting ones, and they belong together.

A chlorophyll molecule has exactly one magnesium atom at its centre. That is not a supporting role: take the magnesium away and there is no chlorophyll, however much of the rest you supply. Iron does not sit inside the molecule, but the plant needs it to build one. Without iron, production stalls even with magnesium in stock.

That is why you meet them together. A shortage of either shows up in practice as the same thing, pale leaf, and the difference is mostly in where on the plant you see it.

Why chlorophyll pays off most in the growth phase

Atami set out the chain and it is worth following. Chlorophyll captures light and converts that energy into sugar. That sugar is the energy the plant spends on cell division, cell elongation and cell differentiation.

In the growth phase that is precisely what you are buying. Every leaf added enlarges the surface with which the plant pays for the next leaves, so in that phase it compounds. Later in the crop the energy goes into filling flowers rather than into more leaf area, and the gain is smaller. That is why this booster appears in all three of Atami's grow guides in the growth columns only.

On coco you are watching these elements anyway

Coco is known for holding on to calcium and magnesium, and you can see that in the schedule Atami publish for coco: cal-mag starts there at 0.3 to 0.6 ml per litre, against 0.2 to 0.3 on soil. Double, at the start of the crop.

That does not make the magnesium in this booster a replacement for your cal-mag, since the dose is far too low to play that part. It does mean that on coco you are working in a medium where this element already has your attention, and where a shortfall shows itself sooner than it would on soil.

What Atami do not publish

No NPK. The field on their own product page is left blank and no analysis circulates that outweighs it. So there is no percentage table on this page.

And no difference in composition between the Soil, Hydro and Coco versions. Atami describe the booster on one page, and in the three grow guides it sits on the same line at the same 0.5 ml. What differs per substrate is the schedule around it, not the bottle.

The coco schedule, in brief

In use

Shake well. Mix 0.1 to 0.5 ml per litre of nutrient water and give it daily, from the growth phase. The grow guide puts the growth phase at 0.5 ml.

The first two weeks run on B'cuzz Root Stimulator; Atami then replace that with this booster. Steer on your EC and treat the doses as indications, since Atami say themselves that they depend on crop, conditions and light intensity.

Frequently asked questions

Does this replace my cal-mag on coco?
No. The dose is far too low for that. On coco, Atami's schedule in fact starts with the highest cal-mag feed of the three substrates.

Why magnesium and iron together?
Magnesium sits at the heart of the chlorophyll molecule and the plant needs iron to make that molecule. Either one on its own gets you little.

Why growth only?
Because extra chlorophyll pays off most in that phase: more leaf area pays for the next leaf. In all three grow guides the booster appears in the growth columns only.

Is the Coco version composed differently from the Soil version?
Atami publish no difference. One product description, the same dose in all three schedules.

What is the NPK?
