A two-part mineral base nutrient for hydro cultivation on rockwool and mapito, developed for systems in which the nutrient solution drains away after irrigation and is not reused. A and B go into the water simultaneously.

Made for run-to-waste, not for recirculation

This is the most important sentence on the packaging and the one missing from most pages. Atami developed this nutrient for systems in which the solution drains out of the substrate after the feed and is not used again.

That distinction is not cosmetic. In a system that runs to waste you give a fresh solution at every feed and whatever the plant does not take up goes to the drain. So the composition the roots see is every time the composition you mixed.

In a recirculating system the opposite happens. There, whatever the plant does not take up returns to the tank and accumulates, while the elements that are taken up disappear. The ratio in your tank drifts over the run even when your EC stays level, and a nutrient built for that has a different design.

If you do use this one in a recirculating system, do it with your eyes open: measure more often, refresh the tank in good time, and do not trust EC as your only signal, because it says nothing about the ratio underneath it.

A and B together, and water at room temperature

For this version Atami prescribe that A and B go into the water at the same time. That is explicitly a different instruction from the soil version in the same range, where the concentrates may only meet in combination with water.

The reason to take it seriously is the same in both cases: undiluted, certain elements react with each other and precipitate. What precipitates is lost to your plant and shows up as a layer on the bottom of your tank.

Atami also advise water at room temperature for the best result. Cold tap water dissolves less readily and holds less oxygen once it warms up in your system.

Rockwool and mapito

This nutrient is used mainly on rockwool and mapito. Both are inert media: they supply no nutrition of their own and buffer nothing, so what you mix is what arrives at the root.

That calls for measuring rather than estimating. Your EC meter here is not a check after the fact but the instrument you steer with, and your pH decides whether the elements you have given are available at all.

The packaging is polyethylene and fully recyclable, free of PVC and cadmium.

Frequently asked questions

What does it mean that the water is not reused?
That you give a fresh solution at every feed and let the excess run to the drain, instead of pumping it back to your tank.

Can I use it in a recirculating system anyway?
It is not built for it. If you do, measure more often and refresh your tank in good time, because the ratio drifts while your EC can stay level.

Should I add A and B together or one after the other?
For this version, together, into the water. That is a different instruction from the Soil version, so do not carry it over from the other bottle.

There is a layer on the bottom of my tank.
That points to precipitation, usually because the concentrates came too close together or the water was too cold. Mix into plenty of water at room temperature.

Can I use this in soil?
Better not. This one is calculated for a medium that buffers nothing; there is a separate version for soil.
