Hy-pro - Epic Bloom Terra

Epic Bloom is the bloom booster from the Hy-pro Terra line. You add it to your Terra base feed from the fourth week of flowering. On this line that is not a luxury: Terra is a single bottle that stays the same all cycle, so this is the only thing in your schedule that changes when the plant starts to flower.

Your base feed never switches over, this bottle does

Hy-pro Terra is a one-component feed. One bottle, given at every watering, from the first week to the last. In Hy-pro's schedule the amount rises, from around 2.5 to 5 ml per litre, but the ratio between the elements in that bottle never changes. That is exactly the appeal of a one-component feed, and it has one consequence that rarely makes it onto a page.

On a line with separate grow and bloom feeds, the composition moves with the plant: less nitrogen, more phosphorus and potassium once flowering starts. With Terra that does not happen. The bottle you pour in week two is the bottle you pour in week eight. If you still want that shift towards phosphorus and potassium, it has to come from somewhere else, and in the Hy-pro Terra line that somewhere is this booster.

So on this line Epic Bloom is a different kind of product from a booster on an A and B line. There, a booster is an extra on top of a feed that has already adjusted for bloom. Here it is the adjustment. That is the reason not to treat it as optional if you grow on Terra.

What Hy-pro state, and what they do not

For Epic Bloom, Hy-pro name raised levels of phosphorus and potassium, together with trace minerals, amino acids and other organic stimulants. Their catalogue is a little more concrete: phosphate, iron and potassium in the right proportion, plus superphosphates.

Two things stand out. The first is that this is the only one of the three Epic bottles for which Hy-pro name organic components at all. The hydro and coco versions do not get that mention. The second is the iron. Iron is an element you normally associate with growth, because it goes into making chlorophyll. Finding it in a bloom booster says something about what Hy-pro think a soil-grown plant needs in flower: the leaves have to keep working while the plant puts its energy into the flowers.

What does not exist is an analysis. Hy-pro publish no NPK and no percentages for the whole Epic range, so we add no figures we cannot stand behind.

When and how much

Hy-pro start Epic Bloom in the fourth week of flowering and run it until the flush. The label says 1 ml per litre.

Their own grow schedule gives no fixed number: the Epic row runs from 0.5 to 1.5 ml per litre, with 1.5 as the highest value at the end of the row. The dose rises with the bloom. Hy-pro advise feeding at least weekly for as long as the plant is making flowers.

Mix it into your water after adding Terra, and only then measure EC and pH. Hy-pro hold 5.5 to 6.0 for the nutrient solution. Overdosing is possible, so raise the dose in steps rather than in one go.

On soil, indoors and out

Hy-pro state that this version can be used on both indoor and outdoor plants. Outdoors you are dealing with rain and with a much larger mass of soil, so it is wiser to stay at the low end of the range and go by the crop rather than by the schedule.
