Hy-pro - Rootstimulator Terra

The dose is a rule, not a number

Most additives print one figure on the label and you stick to it. Not this one. Hy-pro's instruction reads: always use Rootstimulator Terra in the same quantity as Terra.

That means the dose moves with your feeding schedule instead of standing still. In Hy-pro's own schedule the Terra feed starts around 2.5 ml per litre and rises to 5 ml per litre, and the root stimulator rises exactly alongside it. So in week one you give 2.5 ml per litre, and later on 5.

Turn that into a single number and you spend most of the cycle giving half what the manufacturer intends. Not a disaster, but a waste of the bottle: you are paying for a concentration you then do not use.

The practical version is pleasantly simple. You need no separate schedule. Measure out your Terra, then measure the same number of millilitres of root stimulator. Raise one and you raise the other.

Why tying the two together makes sense

Behind that rule sits a thought about concentration. An additive given at a fixed dose while your base feed climbs becomes a steadily smaller share of what is in the water. By early flowering, with your EC at more than twice its week-one value, that fixed dose has halved in relative terms.

Tying the two together keeps the ratio between feed and stimulator constant across the whole cycle. It is a different way of dosing from most bottles on this shelf, and it is the reason Hy-pro sell three versions rather than one.

What is in it, and what Hy-pro do not say about it

Hy-pro name macro-nutrients, trace elements, organic compounds, disaccharides and beneficial microbes. What they do not publish is an analysis: there is no NPK, no content figure, no percentage list for this product.

So we do not print one either. What the declaration does give you: the disaccharides are sugars, and those feed the soil life in your pot rather than the plant itself. In potting soil that lands, because the soil life is already there. Which is immediately the clearest difference from the hydro version of this product, where such ingredients end up in a closed system instead of a living soil.

Which of the three you need

Hy-pro sell Rootstimulator in three versions: Terra, Coco and Hydro. The choice is simpler than it looks, because the manufacturer ties each version to a base feed rather than to a substrate in its own right.

Feed with Hy-pro Terra and you want this one. Feed with Coco A&B and you want the Coco version; feed with Hydro A&B and you want the Hydro version. So look at the bottle you already use rather than the bag in your pot.

In use

Mix the root stimulator into your water in the same quantity as your Terra base feed, and use it through the whole growth phase and the first weeks of flowering.

Measure your EC and pH after everything is mixed, not before. Hy-pro hold a nutrient solution pH of 5.5 to 6.0.
