One litre here is one litre, and that is the whole point

Hy-pro sell Spraymix in two versions with nearly the same name, and the difference between them is larger than between any other two bottles on this shelf.

This bottle is ready to use: you shake it, fill your sprayer, and spray. There is a litre in it and you make a litre of spray with it.

The concentrated version you dilute at 5 ml per litre of water. One litre of that makes roughly two hundred litres of spray.

Two hundred times apart, under the same product name. Treat the ready-to-use bottle as concentrate by mistake and you spray a solution two hundred times too weak, then wonder why nothing happens. Do it the other way and mist the concentrate neat, and you put a far too strong solution on your leaves. So read the label before you measure anything, not just the name.

Who this is the sensible choice for

Buying water sounds like something to avoid, and per litre of spray this bottle is indeed considerably dearer. Even so there are two situations where it is the better buy.

The first is scale. With two or three plants in a small tent you might use half a litre of spray at a time. Two hundred litres would last years, and opened concentrate does not keep forever. You would be paying for shelf life you never reach.

The second is accuracy. Measuring five millilitres per litre into a hand sprayer is often done by eye, and that is exactly where dosing errors come from. A ready-to-use bottle skips that step.

If you spray regularly and across more than a few plants, the concentrate is the sensible choice.

The same rules as the concentrate

It is the same liquid, so the same instructions apply.

Shake well before use. Spray the crop to run-off, on the upper and the under side of the leaf, because that underside is where most of the stomata are. Spray at the start of the morning or at the end of the day, and not under a bright lamp at close range.

And the most important restriction, which applies to this bottle just as much: Hy-pro state that you do not spray it on flowers and use it only during the growth phase. Moisture trapped in a dense flower head is the condition botrytis starts in, and that risk does not weigh against a foliar feed you could have given through the root.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need to dilute this?
No. This bottle is already diluted. Diluting it makes the solution too weak.

How does it differ from the regular Spraymix?
The regular one is concentrate used at 5 ml per litre, so a litre of it makes about two hundred litres of spray. This bottle makes one litre.

Why not always take the concentrate then?
With a few plants you will never use two hundred litres, and measuring into a hand sprayer is often done by eye. If you spray more often and more widely, take the concentrate.

May I use it on flowering plants?
No. Hy-pro state: not on flowers, growth phase only.

Why spray under the leaf as well?
That is where most of the stomata are, so that is where most of it gets in.
