It goes flat again after the crop

At twenty-five litres, storage is a genuine problem. Stacking five is usually possible, and you still have half a cubic metre of pots standing in a shed you wanted for something else.

This pot does not exist while it is not in use. You undo the three screws, unroll the wall into a flat strip and lay it on a shelf with the base. Five of these dismantled take less room than one assembled.

It also makes cleaning between crops easier, which at this size is no small thing. An assembled 24.7 litre pot with root debris in the cones has to be scrubbed from the inside, over a 35 centimetre rim. A flat strip you hose down and leave to dry.

It is also why this pot uses a screwdriver rather than a clip: a screwed joint opens a hundred times without damage, and a clip does not.

What fits in twenty-five litres

This volume carries a plant grown on properly before flowering, or a mother plant that has to be cut back a few times. At 30 centimetres across the footprint is the same as the 14 litre; the difference is fifteen centimetres of extra height.

Air pruning at the wall

The cones face outwards with a hole in each point. A root arriving there dries back at the tip and branches behind it, so the substrate is rooted right into the edge instead of forming a dense collar against the wall. The top two rows are solid and keep everything in when you water.

How do I clean it? Take it apart, rinse it and let it dry. To disinfect, use something suitable for plastics and rinse thoroughly afterwards.

Do the screw holes wear from repeated opening? Not in normal use. Tighten by hand rather than with a drill.

How much substrate does it take? Roughly half a 50 litre bag per pot.

Can I move it when full? Full and wet it weighs a fair few kilos and the wall is not meant to be lifted by. Take it low down by the base, or fill it in place.
