A 9.4 litre rooting pot, 30 centimetres tall assembled with a diameter of 20 centimetres. Supplied flat with three screws and a base on a foot.
The same diameter as the 7.8 litre
This is not a different pot but the same pot, five centimetres taller. Both measure 20 centimetres across, so on your floor they take up exactly the same room. The extra litre and a half is all in the height.
That makes the choice simpler than it looks. Short on width and long on headroom, and this is the better one: you gain substrate without giving up a centimetre of floor. If height matters, say because your lamp hangs at a fixed distance and every centimetre of pot comes off your growing space, the 7.8 litre is the wiser pick.
What a taller pot does to moisture
There is a second difference that appears on no packaging. At the bottom of every pot a layer forms that stays saturated, where water goes no further because the substrate's pull and gravity balance out. That layer is much the same thickness whether your pot is 25 or 30 centimetres tall.
In a taller pot the same wet layer is therefore a smaller share of the whole, and the part above it a larger one. In practice this size gives you a clearer gradient from moist at the bottom to airier at the top. For a plant rooting downwards that is welcome; for cuttings and young plants using only the top layer it works against you, because the bottom half then stands wet for a long time with no roots in it.
Air pruning at the wall
As on the other sizes, the cones face outwards with a hole in each point. A root arriving there meets air, stops growing on, and the plant branches behind it. The top two rows of cones are solid and keep the substrate on board when you water.

Frequently asked questions
Should I take the 7.8 or the 9.4? For the same floor space the 9.4 gives you a litre and a half more substrate and ten centimetres more height. If you are tight under the lamp, take the 7.8.
Does it tip more easily? It is taller on the same foot, so more top-heavy than the 7.8. With a large plant a tray with a raised edge or a support is worth having.
How many fit on a square metre? Nine touching, the same as the 7.8 litre, because the diameter is identical.
Can I mix it with the 7.8? You can, but your plants then start at different heights. Under one lamp in one tent it is calmer to pick a single size.
