Getting a tray into a tent that is exactly the same size

Here is the problem a rigid tray cannot solve. A 100 by 100 centimetre grow tent is exactly one hundred centimetres inside, so a rigid hundred centimetre tray does not go in: it would have to pass the poles, and it will not.

With a folding tray it does, and it goes like this. Fold the tray, carry it through the tent's doorway, and unfold it on the floor inside. Then push the upstanding walls in slightly so they fall inside the poles. The base lies flat and the walls lean in a few degrees rather than standing vertical.

You give up a couple of centimetres of effective width at the bottom and you keep a tray that is waterproof across the whole tent floor. That is exactly the trade you want.

If you would rather not push walls inwards, take one size down. An 80 by 80 centimetre tray sits loose in a hundred centimetre tent, with ten centimetres of clearance all round.

A hundred litres of containment

With a ten centimetre wall this tray holds around a hundred litres to the rim. In practice you never fill it that far: the point of the figure is that a toppled jerrycan, a hose pulled loose or an overflowing reservoir stays inside the tray rather than reaching your floor.

The rigid 100 centimetre plant tray has a twelve centimetre wall and holds 120 litres. It does not fold, though, so it will not go into a tent that is already up.
