Rigid or folding, at exactly the same size

This tray and the Flextray 120 cover the same floor area, and choosing between them is the last decision in this category. It comes down to three points.

Capacity. This tray is twelve centimetres deep against the Flextray's ten, and two centimetres over 1.44 square metres is nearly thirty litres: 172.8 against 144. In a leak that counts.

Rigidity. A rigid tray stays where you put it, even with eighteen litre pots standing on it and you leaning against it. A folding tray has flexible walls that give, which is exactly what you want while carrying it in and not what you want when a heavy pot rests against it.

Transport. Here the Flextray wins, and convincingly. A 120 centimetre sheet goes through no interior door of seventy-two centimetres, will not turn a stairwell, and will not go into a grow tent that is already up. This tray has to be in place before everything else is.

The rule that follows: if you can set the tray down before the tent or system is built around it, and it then stays put, this rigid version is more tray for less money. If it has to pass through something, or you want to store it between crops, the folding one is the only one that manages it.

A hundred and seventy-two litres

That is more than most reservoirs in a grow room hold, which is exactly the point: if your reservoir fails, its contents stay inside these walls.

The base carries shallow ridges that hold pots a few millimetres clear, so drainage water can run out from under them. That lets you stand pots straight in it without a grid.

Frequently asked questions

Will it go through an interior door? No. A hundred and twenty centimetres is wider than a standard door frame.

Will it fit a 120 by 120 cm tent? Only if you put it down before the tent is built.

Why is the folding one more expensive? Because a waterproof fold is harder to make. You pay for the ability to move it, not for more capacity.

Can I use it as a watering tray? Yes, with a capillary mat on the base. Do not leave pots standing in water for days.
