A 4 litre fabric pot from Garden Highpro's Propot range, with a square 15 by 15 centimetre base and standing about 20 centimetres tall. Made from recycled PET at a fabric weight of 260 grams per square metre.
It goes in the washing machine at 30 degrees
That sounds like a detail, and it is the only brand we stock that puts a temperature on it. For most fabric pots all you are told is that they are "washable", which in practice means a hose and hoping for the best.
Why it matters: between two crops the weave holds root debris, algae and accumulated salts. Salts draw back into your fresh substrate at the next filling, and root debris is exactly what fungi wait for. Rinsing a pot removes what is loose; washing removes the rest.
Two conditions. Do it without detergent, because soap residues stay in geotextile and end up in your root zone afterwards. And let the pot dry completely before storing it: folding it away damp is the one reliable way to ruin a good fabric pot.
Then you fold it flat. A stack of ten of these fits in a drawer, which rigid plastic pots of the same volume will not do.
What four litres carries
Four litres is a raising size: a rooted cutting or a young plant, or a crop with many plants packed onto a small area. With a 15 by 15 centimetre footprint you fit sixteen to twenty-five on a square metre.
Roots at a porous wall
The geotextile passes air and water. A root tip reaching the fabric dries back and stops growing on; the plant branches behind it. What you get is a finely rooted block rather than a spiral.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use detergent? No. Soap residues stay in the weave and end up at your roots afterwards.
Will washing shrink it? Not noticeably at 30 degrees. Do not wash it hotter.
How long will it last? Mostly that depends on how you store it. Dry and folded flat, a pot of this quality runs for several crops.
What is 260 grams per square metre worth? It is solid mid-range: thicker than a cheap grow bag and thinner than the heaviest grades we stock.
