A pot you do not move

The handles disappear here not to save money but because they no longer make sense. Fifty-five litres of substrate is heavy dry, and saturated with water tens of kilos join it. That is not a load for two loops of fabric, however well stitched.

The practical conclusion is that you fill this pot where it is going to stand, not somewhere else. Decide in advance where it belongs: centred under the lamp, with room around it to work, and its base clear so water can get out. A pot 43 by 43 centimetres is not something you nudge across the floor afterwards.

If it does have to move, put it on a plant trolley or a wheeled base rated for the weight before you fill it. Never drag it: geotextile is strong in tension but was not built to serve as a sledge, and the bottom seam takes all of it.

What 55 litres buys you

This volume is meant for plants that stand in one place for months: large annuals, shrubs, a mother plant that has to stay big. The substrate buffer is large enough that a missed watering is not a disaster, and that is exactly what separates it from the smaller sizes in this range.

The Aqua Breathe layer

The layer sewn into the side walls is less permeable than the outer fabric, so water leaves the pot through the base. On a pot this size that is not a detail: without it the entire lower edge would sit permanently damp against your floor.

Roots in a large volume

The bigger the pot, the more it matters that air reaches the middle. A closed 55 litre container has a core that only gets oxygen from above. In a fabric pot air enters from every side, and the roots meeting the wall branch instead of circling.
