A 75 litre fabric pot, 50 x 50 x 30 centimetres, with the Aqua Breathe layer. This is the largest size in the range, and the only one where the pot itself is a planning decision rather than just a purchase.

Half a metre square

Fifty by fifty centimetres is a quarter of a square metre. Put four down and your floor is full: no path, no room for a fan at ground level, nowhere to set a watering can. A 120 by 120 centimetre tent takes four with a narrow margin around them. A 100 by 100 centimetre tent takes one or two in practice.

That makes this a size for a few plants grown large, not for a full floor. One plant per pot, with enough space around it to reach in from every side, is how it is meant to be used.

The 30 centimetre height is the same as on the 25, 39 and 55 litre. All the extra volume sits in the width. So nothing changes for your lamp when you move from 39 to 75 litres: the plant starts at exactly the same height.

What it is for

Seventy-five litres suits a mother plant that has to last for years, a shrub or a small tree in a container, or outdoor growing where you want a plant as large as possible without putting it in the ground. Indoors it is a specialist size: most growers get more out of four plants in 19 litres than one in 75.

Fill it and leave it

Like the 55 litre, this size has no handles, for the same reason: filled, it cannot be lifted. Fill it in place, with the base clear of the floor so water can leave and air stays underneath.

The Aqua Breathe layer

The extra layer in the side walls holds water back until it reaches the base. Over a quarter of a square metre that is the difference between a dry floor and a permanently wet margin all the way round the pot.

Frequently asked questions

How much substrate will I need? One and a half 50 litre bags per pot. Work it out beforehand, because running a bag short halfway through filling is a nuisance at this size.

Will it fit a 100 by 100 cm tent? It fits, but half your floor is then taken by a single pot. For a tent that size, 25 or 39 litres is the wiser choice.

Is more root volume always better? No. A plant only fills 75 litres if you give it the time and the light. Without both, a large part of the substrate sits for months with no roots in it.

Can I leave it outdoors? Yes. Keep it out of standing water and stand it on paving or a base rather than in mud.
