Gronest Aqua Breathe Wall Planter 1.5L

A 1.5 litre wall planter with Gronest's Aqua Breathe layer, supplied with screws, plugs and tie wraps. The smallest of the three wall sizes, and the one you hang several of side by side rather than on its own.

This is about the fixing, not the pot

With a pot on the floor the only thing that matters is that the base is clear. With a wall pot everything hangs off whatever you drive into the wall, and that is the part most people think about least.

A litre and a half of damp substrate weighs a kilo or so, plus the pot and the plant. That sounds like nothing, and on a single screw in plasterboard it is not. Plasterboard barely holds an ordinary plug: use a cavity fixing there, or find the studs behind it. In masonry or concrete the supplied plug is fine. In wood you drive the screw straight in.

The tie wraps in the bag are there for the second way of hanging it: from a rack, a fence or a frame rather than a wall. That is also the safest option if you are unsure what your wall will take, because the frame carries the load and you drill nothing.

Gronest publishes no maximum weight, and rightly so: the limit is your wall and your plug, not the pot. If in doubt, hang it low enough that a pot pulling free hits nothing.

The Aqua Breathe layer

The same layer as in the round pots: it passes less water than the outer fabric, so what you give leaves at the bottom of the pot rather than straight through the front. On a wall that is the difference between dry brickwork and a damp stripe under every pot.

What fits in it

A litre and a half suits herbs, small flowering plants or a couple of strawberry plants. For anything that has to grow large it is too little substrate, and the 4.5 or 10 litre is the better choice. Water at the top, gently, and give two small amounts rather than one large one: whatever runs straight through ends up on the wall instead of in the pot.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hang it on plasterboard? Only with a cavity fixing, or into the studs behind it. The supplied plug is meant for masonry and concrete.

Do I need something underneath to catch water? Indoors, yes. A narrow tray or a plant saucer under the bottom row catches what runs through.

How many can I hang side by side? As many as your wall is wide. For a continuous green wall, hang them both beside and below one another.

Can it hang outdoors? Yes. Bear in mind that a wall pot this size in full sun dries back within a day.
