A 3.8 litre fabric pot from Root Pouch's Boxer line, made from one hundred percent recycled PET. The smallest size we stock, and the one where the point of the whole line is easiest to see.
This pot can go into the ground
Most fabric pots are built to let roots grow through them. Root Pouch pointedly is not, and that is exactly why you can plant it into open ground or into a larger pot with the pot still on.
Why that helps: a young plant you normally prise out of its container and transplant always loses roots in the process. Put the whole Boxer in the ground instead and the root ball is never disturbed. The plant grows on inside its own wall, and when you want to move it later you lift the pot and get a ball that does not fall apart and has not sent metres of root out into the garden.
It is why nurseries use this line for young trees and perennials. On a small scale it means you can raise cuttings and young plants in something that travels with them rather than being an intermediate step.
What fits in 3.8 litres
Just under four litres is a raising size: a rooted cutting, a seedling past its first few weeks, or a herb you want to keep small. For a full crop it is too little substrate, unless you run many plants at once and keep them short.
The fabric
Boxer is the heaviest grade Root Pouch makes, sewn with an industrial lockstitch and finished seams. Unlike the other Root Pouch lines, Boxer is deliberately not degradable: it is meant to come back year after year rather than break down in the soil.

Frequently asked questions
Will roots grow through the fabric if it is in the ground? This fabric is specifically not made for that. Root tips catch in the weave rather than finding a way through, which is what lets the pot go into the soil with the plant.
How long does a plant stay in it? Until the root ball fills the pot. After that you move up a size, or set this pot, plant and all, into a larger one with substrate around it.
Can it go in the washing machine? Rinsing by hand is enough and safer. Do not use detergent, which stays behind in the weave.
Why is this pot brown? The colour belongs to the Boxer line. Root Pouch uses colour to tell its fabric grades apart.
